Kate Winslet has revealed how testosterone replacement therapy changed her sex drive.
The 48-year-old Titanic star told how her libido increased after undergoing testosterone replacement therapy, which often involves low doses of the hormone estrogen, according to the Mayo Clinic.
On the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast, Kate shared tips on how a listener can rekindle her sex drive with her longtime boyfriend.
The Hollywood icon drew on her own health journey for help, saying, “Sometimes women really have a drop in libido because maybe there’s something going on with their thyroid.”
“There could also be something going on with your testosterone level,” the Oscar winner continued.
A lot of people don’t know this, but women have testosterone in their body, when it runs out – like eggs – it’s gone. And when it’s gone, you have to replace it, and that’s something that can be done, and you’ll feel sexy again… I know.”
The Mares of Eastown star urged listeners to get their thyroid and testosterone levels checked as these can ‘directly affect how you feel’.
“It’s not your fault, our bodies are strange and behave strangely, especially as we get older,” she continued.
“So there could be a drop in those hormone levels for you that contributes a lot more than you think to how you feel about having sex with your boyfriend, so I would definitely do that.”
It comes after the actress opened up about her body as her latest film Lee, which tells the story of war photographer Lee Miller, hits cinemas.
She talked about the nude scenes in the film, narrated Metro.co.uk: “It was actually really different, mainly because we automatically knew that whenever we showed Lee naked or partially clothed, it was always on her terms.
“Being a woman, of course I’m very aware of how women are portrayed on camera.”
She also spoke to Harpers Bazaar about a moment on set where she defended showing off her baby bump, which was met with praise from fans.
“There’s a bit where Lee is sitting on a bench in a bikini… And one of the crew came in between takes and said, ‘Maybe you want to straighten up,'” she recalled.
To which Kate replied: “So you can’t see my tummy? Not in my life!” “It was on purpose, you know?”
Asked if she minded looking less than perfect on screen, she added: ‘On the contrary. I’m proud of it because my life is on my face and that’s what matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover it up.’
Lee is in theaters now.
