FIRE is set to engulf Walford as EastEnders celebrates its 40th anniversary.
While few details are currently known about the nature of the fire, a BBC source told The Sun: “The drama is really building up.”
However, it could mean the lives of many EastEnders fan favorites hang in the balance.
It comes after we exclusively reported Ross Kemp’s “return” to the soap for its four-decade milestone.
Ross first stopped playing his EastEnders character Grant Mitchell in 1999 after almost a decade, before returning briefly in 2005 and 2016.
We first revealed how he will now present a one-off documentary about the show that made him famous.
A source said: “Ross is joining the celebrations by hosting his own EastEnders documentary.
“He’ll be interviewing stars past and present about why he’s so good and how important he is.
EastEnders will always have a special place in his heart and he’s really excited.”
Asked about returning to EastEnders last week on This Morning, he said: “I can’t tell you anything.”
In 2010, EastEnders presented a week of episodes centered around a pub fire.
Dubbed Queen Vic Fire Week, the four episodes captured the build-up to the fire at the iconic pub, then run by Peggy Mitchell.
It was her son Phil – the brother of returner Grant – who lit the spark that started the inferno.
Quite literally explosive scenes were written to accommodate the drinking hall renovation, which attracted viewers who then experienced the episodes broadcast in high definition for the first time.
In terms of upcoming plots, we can also reveal how Navin Chowdhry is leaving after two years as Nish Panesar.
The EastEnders stars who QUIT
MICHELLE Collins has seen her second term in EastEnders boost her bank balance. Which stars resigned this year?
The Sun exclusively reported that Michelle, 62, was £20,000 short on her company accounts when she agreed to make a shock return from the dead in Albert Square last year.
Her character, Cindy Beale, was presumed dead on camera in 1998.
What about the exits from 2024?
Earlier this summer, loyal fans of the soap noticed how Stevie Mitchell had “quit” the long-running series.
It came after Alan Ford had enjoyed just six months on screen.
Bobby Beale’s co-star Clay Milner Russell also left this year after five years at Walford.
Fans also feared Martin Fowler’s actor James Bye would “quit out of boredom” due to recent storylines.
In addition, a host of stars have left the BBC soap for Hollywood fame.
One of the most successful stars to come out of the BBC One series is Rob Kazinsky.
From 2006 to 2009, he played Stacey Slater’s brother, Sean Slater, and starred in the Hollywood blockbusters Pacific Rim and Captain Marvel.
Ben Hardy, who left EastEnders as Bobby Beale nearly a decade ago, took Hollywood by storm the following year when he starred as Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse.
He has since played Roger Taylor in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and starred in Michael Bay’s Netflix film 6 Underground.
Michelle Ryan played Zoe Slater until 2005.
From 2007 to 2008, she played the lead role in the short-lived American series Bionic Woman.
The 53-year-old relinquished his role as the villain after joining in 2022.
A show source said: “It is not known if Nish will be killed off, even though his health is suffering, but we expect the exit to be very impactful and dramatic.
“Navin made quite an impact on the show in the two years he was a part of it, especially as a key part of the big Christmas story with The Six. He will be missed by the cast, crew and viewers.”
The Sun has contacted a representative for the soap for comment.
